I had a fantastic couple of days driving around Corfu in a MINI BMW convertible and seeing the best of the island. I'll tell you about my favourite spots to visit the island: Corfu city, the scenic northern parts of the island and the stunning Paleokastritsa bay area, the ideal place for boating.
Corfu is nestled in the azure embrace of the Ionian Sea. It's a stunning Greek island that beckons travelers with unparalleled beauty, rich history, and captivating landscapes. From the vibrant Corfu City to the serene northern regions near Acharavi and the picturesque Paleokastritsa in the northwest, Corfu offers a tapestry of experiences that resonate with both history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
BTW there's also the very popular area down south called Kavos, which is mostly meant for those who love a party. I came to relax, so headed straight up north.
CORFU CITY
At the heart of Corfu lies its capital city, aptly named Corfu City (Kerkyra in Greek). Steeped in history and culture, this charming city is a perfect blend of Venetian, French, and British influences. As you wander through its narrow streets, you'll encounter architectural wonders that stand as a testament to its diverse past.
The Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the jewel of Corfu City. With its narrow alleys, pastel-hued buildings, and vibrant markets, it transports visitors to a bygone era. The iconic Liston promenade, inspired by French architecture, offers a splendid spot to enjoy a leisurely coffee while observing the city's pulse. The imposing Old Fortress, a Venetian stronghold, provides panoramic views of the city and the sea beyond, a reward for those willing to climb its walls.

ACHARAVI
Venturing northward, a short drive from Corfu City, brings you to the tranquil village of Acharavi. Nestled amid olive groves and rolling hills, Acharavi offers a serene escape from the bustling city life. Its laid-back atmosphere, pristine beaches, and warm hospitality make it a hidden gem for travelers seeking a quieter side of Corfu.
Acharavi's most notable attraction is its expansive beach, fringed with golden sands and crystal-clear waters. Whether you seek to relax under the sun's embrace, indulge in water sports, or take a leisurely stroll along the shoreline, Acharavi's beach caters to all preferences. For both couples and families, I highly recommend the Costa Botanica hotel with fantastic pool and beach facilities, with food and drinks served around the clock.

PALEOKASTRITSA
A short drive west from Acharavi leads to the enchanting region of Paleokastritsa, a destination known for its captivating coastal landscapes and opportunities for boating adventures. Nestled amidst lush hills and rocky coves, Paleokastritsa offers a paradisiacal setting that has inspired poets and artists for centuries.

Boating is a highlight of any visit to Paleokastritsa, allowing you to explore the coastline's hidden treasures. Rent a small boat or join a guided tour to venture into sea caves or swim in secluded coves. The translucent waters are an invitation to explore a world that mirrors the island's beauty in a different dimension..
Corfu stands as a testament to Greece's enduring allure, offering a harmonious blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. From the vibrant tapestry of Corfu City's streets to the tranquil retreat of Acharavi and the nautical adventures near Paleokastritsa, each facet of the island beckons travelers to explore and uncover its unique charm. As you immerse yourself in Corfu's wonders, you'll find yourself captivated by its timeless allure and eager to return to its shores time and again

ROAD TRIP
Last but not least, my MINI road trip adventure: I hired a convertible to visit the best parts of the island.
The BMW MINI is a perfectly cute car for a weekend island roadtrip. The convertible is ideal for sunsets and in the evenings when it gets cooler ( I'll be honest, I put the AC at full blast during the scorching daytime temperatures and closed the roof...locals would never drive a convertible:)

From the typical rental cars, the MINI gives you a bit more space than for example the FIAT 500C which I've tried on a few holiday occasions. The MINI drives like a solid German car, keeping firm on the curves and you can clearly notice the BMW influences throughout the interiors. I remember seeing quite a lot of MINIS in various semi-pro racing competitions, so it's a popular choice as a part racing, part everyday car. It's liked among the female clientele for its cute looks and the British legend behind it gives it an extra cool background story.
Rent out prices depend on the season but be prepared for anywhere between 120-150euros for a day in the high season months, that includes full insurance. Depends also how long you rent it out for. Yes, it's expensive compared to some smaller, basic car options (30-60 euro per day), but I am always up for a FUN car if doing a holiday road trip. And as a bonus, doesn't it look great in photos :)
