If you're looking for an incredible skiing experience, I highly recommend skiing in Tyrol, west Austria. Tyrol is known for its fantastic skiing pistes and reasonable prices (compared to France or Switzerland), and a wide range of other winter activities. Here are some more reasons why skiing in Austria is a great choice!

Fantastic Skiing Pistes: Tyrol offers a wide range of pistes suitable for all levels, from beginners to advanced skiers. The region is known for its well-maintained slopes, modern ski lifts and excellent snow conditions. Whether you prefer gentle slopes or challenging runs, has something to offer for everyone. And also few glaciers, which especially come in useful at the beginning and end of season, when the snow isn’t available in the lower parts of the mountains. You can also ski in the summer there!

Affordable Winter Pass: The cost of a winter pass in Tyrol is quite reasonable, making it an attractive option for skiing enthusiasts. With an approximate price of around 960 euros for the whole winter season, you can enjoy unlimited access to a wide range of ski areas, ensuring endless fun on the slopes. Additionally, renting skis typically costs around 200-300 euros for the season, providing convenience and flexibility.

Well-Prepared Skiing Resorts: Tyrol boasts numerous skiing resorts that cater to all your needs. These resorts offer modern amenities, ski schools, equipment rentals and excellent infrastructure. You can expect well-groomed slopes, reliable snow coverage, and a welcoming atmosphere that ensures a memorable skiing experience. My fave skiing areas are the Hintertux Glacier, Kitzbuhel and Wilder Kaiser.

Great Local Hotels: Tyrol is home to a wide selection of hotels, ranging from cozy chalets to luxurious resorts. The accommodations are known for their warm hospitality, comfortable rooms and proximity to the skiing areas. After a day on the slopes, you can relax and rejuvenate in the comfort of the hotel or apartment , ensuring a pleasant stay throughout your trip. One of my fave hotels to stay near Kitzbuhel is Lebenberg Schlosshotel, with an amazing swimming pool overlooking the valley (photos below). As a kid, I also used to visit Hintertux with my parents and we stayed at Hotel Klausnerhof, which is still there.

Both these hotels are fairly close to the lifts - you just need to do a short 3-4min drive to the ski lift parking or take the ski bus (included in the skiing pass price)

Fantastic Food: One of the highlights of skiing in Tyrol is indulging in the delicious local cuisine. Tyrolean dishes are renowned for their hearty flavors and quality ingredients. You can savor traditional favorites such as Wiener schnitzel, Kaiserschmarrn (it's kind of a 'broken' American pancake served with jam, love it;-0). The mountain huts and restaurants scattered throughout offer a wide range of culinary delights to satisfy your appetite. There's also lots of Chinese, Japanese or Turkish spots, which I often go for if I don't feel like a burger or schnitzel.

Sunshine for Sunbathing: In addition to fantastic skiing, Tyrol is known for its sunny weather. The region receives a considerable amount of sunshine during both the winter months, providing the perfect opportunity for sunbathing in between your skiing. You can also ski in the summer on the glaciers, starting mid May.

So, don't wait any longer: grab your skis or snowboard, hit the slopes and embrace the beauty of Tyrol's wonderland!
